Behind The Bleachers: Building Chicago’s Future with The 1901 Project

At NOVA, we do more than just focus on venue renovations and large-scale event operations; we serve as strategic partners who help turn vision into reality. That approach is exactly how we’ll be supporting The 1901 Project

One of Chicago’s most iconic venues, the United Center, has hosted unforgettable moments—from Michael Jordan’s legendary games to the Blackhawks’ Stanley Cup victories and globally recognized concerts. Most recently, it served as the stage for the Democratic National Convention, further cementing its cultural and civic importance. Now, the United Center is setting its sights on something even greater—a lasting legacy that expands beyond the arena walls.

The 1901 Project is a transformative $7 billion private investment on Chicago’s West Side, reimagining the surrounding area as a dynamic, mixed-use district that connects neighborhoods and opens new doors for residents, businesses, and visitors alike.

We’re proud to officially partner with The Machete Group, an industry-leading real estate development and management firm specializing in arenas, stadiums, and adjacent mixed-use projects. With an impressive roster of clients, including FC Cincinnati, the San Diego Chargers, and the NBA, Machete brings deep expertise and a sharp vision to this historic initiative.

At NOVA, our primary role on The 1901 Project is implementation. That means translating strategy into action—managing day-to-day construction activities and overseeing critical project management components such as scheduling, task coordination, stakeholder meetings, and logistics. We’re also deeply involved in shaping the project's transportation and parking strategy, ensuring that access and mobility are integral to this new neighborhood.

The vision for The 1901 Project is far-reaching: a safe, vibrant, and inclusive neighborhood filled with housing, entertainment, dining, educational institutions, green spaces, and, of course, world-class events. It’s more than a development—it’s a catalyst for community, culture, and connection.

A major milestone is right around the corner: Breaking ground this winter. We’ll be sharing more details soon as this next chapter in Chicago’s story unfolds.

Stay tuned for what’s coming—these renderings speak for themselves!
